DOVAH : Packaging Design Project : Wine Bottle
BRIEF : Design Packaging for wine bottles at airports to appeal to first time wine purchasers
After studying alcohol available in airports, exclusive editions, limited airport packaging, displays and shelves, I found all liquor types except wine were widely popular. This might be because of the very small but strong consumer base that wine has but it is also found that people cannot choose a wine since all of them look very similar with just a difference on the branding on the label. The consumer I chose to target is the one who cannot tell a Rosé from a cabernet and vice versa.

Inspired by the layering of leaves on the corn stalk, and the enclosed nature of the food grains. The curves along with the kernel shaped bubble wrap help in protecting the bottle and the wine especially from drops and scratches during the airport transfers and flights. The smooth streamlined shape of the bottle allows for easy storage even in stuffed suitcases all the while being protected by the bubble wrap.

The transparent bubble wrap and sealed cork abides by the travel rules of bottles to be packed in transparent packets while being completely sealed, if the bag is going through cabin baggage (which is the case for most duty free purchases!). If not bought in an airport the bottle still looks aesthetically pleasing on any shelf in a liquor store.
Some wild, some general, the hand drawn illustrations show the DOVAH dragon in different professions.
A feeling of relativity is brought upon the viewer. It aims to signify that dragons come in all shapes and sizes, all forms and especially all jobs. There is no question of who unleashes the dragon within, only a question of who opens DOVAH to bring it forth. The curiosity brought upon by the dragons in different attires and poses with over the top pop art visuals brings together the concept of birth of dragons, in each one of us, wherever we are, whatever we do. To keep the theme of fusion of young, adventurous and experimental with classic, rustic and bold, these illustrations were made to be relatable.
